Denbighshire has a brand-new grass pitch courtesy of a six-figure investment.

Meliden Football Club in Prestatyn has benefitted from a £225,000 grant awarded by the Cymru Football Foundation, in partnership with the UK Government.

The funds have been put towards the installation of a second grass pitch at The Mine.

This expansion aims to accommodate current demand and welcome new women and junior teams.

The additional pitch will serve as a community hub, providing opportunities for the wider community and enhancing the experiences of existing and prospective players.

This aligns with the Cymru Football Foundation's key priorities of sustainability and support for women's and girls' participation in football.

Tom Fletcher, chairperson of Meliden FC, said: "We’re so pleased that we can open this life-changing facility for our football club.

"We couldn’t have done it without the support from the CFF, Sport Wales, the Gwynt y Mor Community Fund and the North Hoyle Windfarm Fund.

"It’s just the beginning for our club and we can’t wait to see what the future holds."
