WHAT a weekend it was for Marchwiel and Wrexham.
Two wins in the space of 24 hours saw them stretch their advantage at the top of Division Two to 27 points.
On Sunday, Marchwiel and Wrexham gained an eight-wicket win over Pontblyddyn Seconds, who struck 118 for nine (Ethan Roberts 27).
Phil Oddie, Muhammad Ghufran and Anthony Morris claimed two wickets for Marchwiel and Wrexham, who replied with 121 for two (George Forgrave 69 not out, Darshana Sanjeewa 43 not out).
On Saturday, Marchwiel and Wrexham savoured an eight-wicket success, as did Llay.
Marchwiel and Wrexham defeated visitors Menai Bridge Seconds, who were dismissed for 102 (John Duffy 46, Ghufran 4-15).
Sam Shoemark (64 not out) and Sam Heard Edwards (33 not out) led the hosts to 103 for two in just 13 overs.
Llay saw off Pontblyddyn Seconds, whose 40 overs yielded 114 for nine (Ethan Roberts 23, Jack Honey 4-20).
Honey (38 not out) then completed a sweet all-round showing in Llay’s 115 for two (Jacob Roberts 37).
Gresford Seconds came up short by just 12 runs during their visit to Bangor Seconds.
The Gwynedd side were able to set 173 for eight, thanks in the main to Gareth Edwards (55) and Will Banham (50).
Takmer Ali picked up three for 23 for Gresford, who then responded with 161 for three from their 40 overs. Joshua Knowles (93) and Danny Griffin (49 not out) spear-headed the chase.
In a low-scoring tussle, Llanrwst’s 92 for six was enough to defeat Mochdre Seconds (79).
Mochdre’s Finlay Jones (3-23) and Llanrwst’s Dewi Parry (4-15) impressed.
Elsewhere, Corwen eased to a 48-run triumph at St Asaph Seconds, who struck 145 for nine (W Roberts 4-15).
Earlier, Roberts (66) and Harry Pooler (67) caught the eye in Corwen’s 193 for seven.
Turning to Division Three action and big team scores seemed to be the order of the day. Mold Seconds cracked 287 for eight from their 40 overs at home to Conwy Seconds.
Chris Boulton (103), Rhys G Hughes (64) and Craig Roberts (54) all impressed for Mold, who then restricted their visitors to 169 for nine (Jawad Afzal 93, Daniel Drew 3-24).
Andy Tilley struck a superb 119 as Connah’s Quay Seconds reached 284 for five versus Halkyn Seconds.
Cole Hooson (52), Chris Boden (32) and Matthew Dix (30) also contributed, with Anthony Green claiming two wickets for Halkyn, who responded with 56 (Dylan Wilson 28, Rhys Jones 3-26).
Hawarden Park Seconds retained their spot in the promotion places with a 98-run win over Bethesda, who were all out for 61 (Jack Williams 3-4). Earlier in the day, Haseeb Hanif Bikya’s 53 helped Park to 159 for eight.
Gwersyllt Park Seconds lost by six wickets to Pwllheli and leaders Ruthin defeated Buckley Seconds by four wickets. Adam Smith (32) top scored in Buckley’s 157 for five, before Murray Whitehead’s 52 helped Ruthin to 158 for six (Smith 4-25).
Bersham Seconds triumphed away to Carmel & District Seconds in Division Four after hitting 261 for eight. Shins Varghese (67), Sujeesh Vazhadan (65 not out) and Aneesh Pattali (50) were the leading lights, as Cameron Ackroyd took three for 36.
Jonathan Fisher finished unbeaten on 58 in Carmel’s 98 (Varghese 3-9).
Mynydd Isa & Maeshafn beat Hawarden Park Thirds by 136 runs, while Llanrwst Seconds won by 54 runs at Corwen Seconds.
