STILL with a depleted squad due to injury and illness, Rhyl turned out a much weakened team for their Division Two (North) trip to Colwyn Bay.
They held the attacks from a strong Bay team for 15 minutes before the hosts broke through with three tries and a penalty to lead 22-0 at the break.
The half-time talk from head coach Seb Vidal put some new life into the team, who seemed to be controlling the game and scrum half Owen Jones dived over for a try, with Llion Edwards converting.
Eventually, the fitter Colwyn Bay team struck back with two converted tries to finish as 36-7 victors.
Rhyl Youth went to Caernarfon, with the hosts grabbing a try within five minutes.
As the half developed, both sides were evenly matched with Caernarfon scoring again followed by two interception tries from Rhyl, the first being scored by Owen Davies and the second scored and converted by Tommy Jones.
A penalty in front of the posts was converted by Tommy Jones giving Rhyl the lead at 15-14.
Caernarfon forced a penalty that was converted to give Caernarfon a 17-14 lead at half time.
The second half began as an even affair yet with the home side growing in confidence, two Caernarfon tries late in the match secured the 33-17 win.
