FORMER Rhyl resident Ched Evans turned in his best performance of the season to date in Preston North End’s emphatic 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town.
The striker joined the Sky Bet Championship club initially on loan from Fleetwood Town, which came following a series if disagreements with then-boss Joey Barton, who also left the set-up shortly after.
Evans has started the last six games for Alex Neil’s men and has made a big impression in a short space of time, resulting in the move being made permanent recently.
The striker netted their second goal on 67 minutes with a well-taken finish that put the home side further in the ascendancy, and the ex-Wales international started the move that resulted in Scott Sinclair wrapping up proceedings with 80 in the clock.
Speaking to iFollow PNE, Evans said: “I’m really pleased. I said from the start, I play with my heart on my sleeve, games like today you can see that.
“I try my best every game and it’s always nice to score goals, but I feel like my all-round performance for the team is getting better and better. For me it is just being consistent and getting those wins under the belt.
“I feel fine. It’s obviously a nice feeling not to come off feeling knackered, but Saturday-Tuesday, Saturday-Wednesday, is tough on the body, for everybody in the league really.
“It’s just about recovering, eating right, sleeping well and going again on Saturday. You’ve got to look after yourself and to keep performing at this level you’ve got to do everything you possibly can.”
North End’s latest triumph sees them move into 13th position, and they are now just nine points off the playoff with 13 games remaining.
Evans will be looking to finish the campaign on a high note in a bid to perhaps get a surprise recall to the national set-up ahead of Euro 2021, which is still on track to take place this summer despite the lingering concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.
