PRESTATYN Town further bolstered their squad on deadline day with the signing of Gareth Rhys Roberts.
The experienced defender was the last arrival at Bastion Gardens before the JD Cymru North season officially begins next month, which will give the Seasiders’ a chance to defend a title they won emphatically last time out.
First-team manager Ryan Turner and his backroom staff have been extremely busy putting together a squad that appears more than capable of challenging for honours, with Roberts set to provide another assured presence to a back-line that was decimated by departures following the resignation of Neil Gibson.
Roberts offers something a little bit different to the predominantly Cheshire and Merseyside-based signings that form the majority of the squad, with the player having turned out for plenty of high-profile domestic clubs during a standout career to date.
The centre-half has represented Cefn Druids and Flint Town United in recent years, with Roberts also listing Brymbo and Brickfield Rangers among his former clubs.
This is another welcome addition to a Town set-up that brought in some high-profile signings over the last eight months, which include ex-Bayern Munich youngster Dale Jennings and former professional Andy Buxton, who starred for Tranmere Rovers.
There will be plenty of competition for the JD Cymru North title over the 15 games, with the likes of Colwyn Bay, Bangor City, Airbus UK Broughton and Gresford Athletic all fancying their chances of securing promotion.
