CAERNARFON Town extended their unbeaten run to three game with a 1-1 home draw against Newtown.
The Canaries were denied another crucial three points in their bid for European football by a late leveller from Chris Hughes’ men, but it is another step in the right direction for a squad that underwent significant changes over the summer.
Both teams had to overcome difficult weather conditions on Friday night, with visiting stopper Dave Jones pulling off two stunning saves to deny Jack Kenny and Telor Williams in quick succession during the first half.
Kenny thought he had broken the deadlock when he turned in a goalmouth scramble that was eventually ruled out for an infringement, and the lively Nick Rushton forced Josh Tibbetts into a smart stop at the other end during a frantic passage of play.
The home side got their noses in front on 33 minutes when Williams delivered a pinpoint pass to Sion Bradley, and the talented playmaker made no mistake with the finish to break the deadlock.
Things almost got better for the Cofis’ on 35 minutes when Jones diverted an attempt from Darren Thomas, with Michael Parker denying the visitors a leveller with a goal-line clearance soon after.
After the break saw the Robins lay siege on the Caernarfon goal, with Tibbetts pulling off a series of exceptional saves to keep his side ahead that was coupled with some resolute defending by skipper Gareth Edwards.
With the contest heading towards a conclusion, the away side finally restored parity to the score-line when Rushton latched on to a long throw and drilled an effort past Tibbetts from 12 yards out and ensure both sides had something to show for their efforts.
The result leaves Caernarfon occupying fifth position in the standings ahead of their next outing at Bala Town on Boxing Day.
