FORMER Prestatyn Town manager Neil Gibson has emerged as a leading candidate to take over at Flint Town United.
Gibson is looking for a route back into the domestic game after resigning from his position at Bastion Gardens, which also saw the large majority of their title-winning squad depart for pastures new.
The Journal understands that Gibson is high on the shortlist of possibilities to take charge at the Essity Stadium, although nothing has been confirmed by the club at this juncture.
There would be plenty of familiar faces for Gibson should he end up taking the Flint job, with the likes of Ben Maher, Rob Hughes and Kai Edwards all working with the boss last season during their memorable campaign that saw Prestatyn finish 16 points clear of the Silkmen and reach the JD Welsh Cup semi-final before the Football Association of Wales curtailed the campaign due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Gibson would have a significant job on his hands at United, with the club currently sitting second from bottom in the top-flight standings after winning three and losing 11 of their opening 14 league games.
The club parted ways with previous boss Niall McGuinness following their 6-3 loss at Barry Town United on Saturday, with chairman Darryl Williams asking assistants Aden Shannon and Johnny Hill asked to stay on during a period of transition.
Prestatyn are currently going through their own changes with a new manager of their own in John Lawless, who has been reforming a squad capable of challenging that includes former Tranmere Rovers, Barnsley and Bayern Munich player Dale Jennings.
