CAERNARFON Town’s latest JD Cymru North clash with Penybont was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols.
The Football Association of Wales announced that a Penybont player had tested positive for the virus in the lead-up to the contest, and Public Health Wales advised that the entire squad must undertake a period of self-isolation in accordance with guidelines and FAW Return to Play Regulations.
This meant the Cofis’ were without a fixture and will now get ready for their home clash against Haverfordwest County at The Oval next Saturday.
Iddon Price will not be part of Huw Griffiths’ plans moving forward, with the talented player deemed surplus to requirements and has since gone on to sign for Ardal Northern League promotion hopefuls Porthmadog.
Another who is no longer with the club is Cory Williams, a hometown player who returned to the set-up earlier this summer and has found playing time hard to come by following a host of new arrivals.
The Chronicle understands that a host of clubs have been in contact with Williams in a bid to acquire the services of the former Colwyn Bay, Chester and Llandudno standout.
Town skipper Gareth Edwards might find it difficult to retire as planned if the club manages to attain a European place this season.
Edwards initially outlined his plans to call it a day following the 2020/21 campaign, but told the Cymru Leagues website this decision could change with the possible allure of leading the Canaries out in Europe.
He said: “If we did make it into Europe this season then how could I retire on that!? There’s no way I could – that might prolong my career a little bit longer. I’m really enjoying the experience of the last few weeks though, it has been nice to be back and around the lads and it’s given me a renewed vigour for the game.
“Who knows, never say never, if we can sneak into Europe then who knows what happens after that, but it’ll be a case of my body giving up before my mind! I’ve got positive feelings about this season and I think if we can just get a little run of form going then we’ve certainly got the players at our club to take on the best.”
