FORMER Prestatyn Town player James Stead has become the latest to depart the club in favour of a move to Caernarfon Town.
The talented forward joins ex-Seasiders’ teammates Michael Parker and Jack Kenny at The Oval, with plenty of senior figures at the JD Cymru North champions opting to find pastures new following the resignation of manager Neil Gibson.
Stead will have to wait for his Canaries’ debut due to the current ‘fire-break’ lockdown implemented by the Welsh Government, which has resulted in Town announcing their upcoming fixtures over the next fortnight are going to be put back to a later date.
The Cofis’ newest recruit stated that the club’s incredible support played a leading role in his decision to sign on the dotted line, with Stead aiming to help Huw Griffiths’ side push for an elusive European place when competitive action gets back underway.
He said: “The reason I’ve joined is I know it’s a well-supported club with a community fan base and having played against Caernarfon I know they get right behind the team and that’s something I’m looking forward to when everyone is allowed back into grounds.
“It’s a competitive team and I’m looking forward to the new challenge and hopefully help push us towards a European finish come May.”
Stead, who has also turned out for Rhyl FC during a promising young career to date, was part of Prestatyn’s dominant squad that won the JD Cymru North title in impressive fashion last season, finishing 16 points ahead of Flint Town United.
Unfortunately for the Seasiders, they were unable to secure a Tier 1 Domestic Licence from the Football Association of Wales, leading to a change in ownership, Gibson’s departure and mot of their championship-winning squad taking their chances elsewhere.
