JD CYMRU North clubs may have to wait until the New Year to get their season underway.
The Journal understands that league officials are discussing the possibility of starting the shortened campaign in January, providing they receive the necessary clearance from the Welsh Government and Football Association of Wales.
This would see each second-tier team play each other once, according to multiple sources, which is entirely dependent on the FAW raising the allowed limited of players and staff from 30 to the required minimum of 40.
Once this has been granted by the governing body, then it should give clubs the opportunity to see some time on the pitch in a competitive setting.
Much will depend on the government’s approach to the increase in coronavirus case across the country in the coming weeks, which has already seen Denbighshire and Cowy put into a local lockdown in the hope of decreasing the risk of infection.
Players and managers across the country below the JD Cymru Premier are becoming increasingly frustrated with their current predicament, with all levels in England now permitted to play.
This has seen plenty of players moving on to top-flight clubs or teams in England in a bid to get some football this season, which has left some squad significantly depleted when competitive action resumes.
It is an ever-changing situation, but some teams below the top of the Welsh pyramid began playing intra-club friendlies last weekend, which was another step in the right direction.
