ST ASAPH CITY assistant manager Jamie Roberts is looking to put his experience to good use and help the club establish themselves in Tier 3 next season.
The Saints will take their place in the Lock Stock Ardal Northern League next term, which promises to be highly competitive with the likes of Porthmadog, Denbigh Town and Llandudno Albion all looking to challenge for the crown.
City’s expectations might be lower, but Roberts is no stranger to domestic success having been part of the Conwy United side that won the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One title back in 2011.
This was one of many highlights from Roberts’ 20-year playing career, and he is looking to pass on his knowledge in his role of assistant boss for Daniel Brewerton’s men when competitive action gets underway.
Roberts will also be taking on the position of goalkeeping coach, which is another welcome boost for the club’s offering of high-quality coaching to its players.
He said: “I picked up a lot of knowledge and experience playing both outfield and as a goalkeeper for many different teams, but my passion has always been for playing in goal.
“I had a short spell out of the game until I was approached by Dan to join him as part of the management team at St Asaph City, we spoke about the importance of having a goalkeeper coach within the setup and what in can bring to the club.
“Being a close friend of Dan it was too good an offer to turn down, the pathway into coaching has been a fresh challenge for myself and reignited my passion for the game and even giving me the opportunity to play from time to time.”
The Saints produced an incredible effort to get Roe Plas up to Tier 3 standard following significant flood damage earlier this year.
An incredible community response, together with generosity from business, enabled them to meet the Football Association of Wales’ new regulations. And Roberts is relishing the challenge of repaying this commitment with strong performances on the pitch.
“St Asaph is a great club and I’m really enjoying my role here,” he added.
“After a difficult campaign last year, to achieve the Tier 3 status is a massive testament to all the hard work that’s gone on behind the scenes.
"We’re really looking forward to the new challenges this year, with new rivals and old, hopefully Dan, myself and Lewis (Hensey) can use our combined experience and knowledge to get the team playing well and in the position the club deserves.”
