CLUBS across the region moved one step closer regarding a return to competitive action after updated training guidelines were announced.
The Football Association of Wales stated that from Monday, August 10, squads can train in groups of 15, which will include contact drills for the first time since fixtures were halted last season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This is part of the FAW and Welsh government’s phased return to football, which remains on course providing there are no spike in cases in the coming weeks.
The recent guidelines indicate that a maximum of 14 players can participate together, with a minimum of one coach per session. The total number of groups in one training area is two U11 players would not need to socially distance before and after training or during breaks in accordance with new government guidelines. However, U12 and above still need to stick to the same restrictions.
A FAW spokesman, said: “Matches are still not permitted to take place. Our phased return of football detailed in the safer return to training protocol document identified that matches could not be played until phase three at the earliest, therefore our announcement that we can move to phase two is a positive step towards the return of football fixtures.
“We continue to work with the Welsh Government, Sport Wales and Welsh Sports Association and we hope to be able to announce the return of fixtures in the near future.”
