ST ASAPH City’s first-team coach Lewis Hensey is looking to put his experience to good use to push the club forward next season.
The popular figure joined the Saints’ in a coaching capacity last season and is looking to assist manager Daniel Brewerton with the club’s transition to the Lock Stock Ardal North West League as part of the Football Association of Wales’ new tier structure.
Hensey decided to pursue a career in coaching after returning from a trip across Australia in 2018. This saw him take up a degree course in the subject at UCFB, which is now in its final year.
This also saw Hensey become part of the thriving Academy system at Prestatyn Town, where he was also appointed head of foundation phase at the Seasiders.
Hensey decided to try his hand at senior coaching after being approached by Brewerton, and he will also be head of youth at Prestatyn after impressing senior team boss Neil Gibson considerably with his approach.
The aspiring coach is working towards his UEFA B Licence on top of all his other commitments, and Hensey is relishing the challenge of what looks to be a highly competitive division next season.
He said: “The new structure of the league has made Tier 3 very tough but I am very excited to challenge myself and am confident the players will thrive.
“I am looking forward to getting back to it. The chairman and all the volunteers at St Asaph City have worked very hard to put us in the position to obtain the licence and I am confident we can surprise a few people this season.”
A sensation effort from everyone associated with the club got their facilities up to the required standard despite floods decimating their pitch and clubhouse earlier this year.
Brewerton is now looking to form a squad capable of competing against some high-profile opposition next term, and a number of last season’s squad have already committed their futures.
