THE FOOTBALL Association of Wales have announced they are yet to make a decision on promotion or relegation after cancelling the season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Journal understands that the governing body have contacted clubs regarding the matter, with a decision to be confirmed “in due course”.
This will impact tiers 1-4 domestically, although others including the Gwynedd League and Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League are now expected to follow suit.
Any decision regarding promotion or relegation will be taking into account full consideration of the FAW's pyramid regulations.
A full statement from the FAW, read: “The FAW Board took into consideration the health and safety of all those involved with these leagues.
“Furthermore, the FAW Board also considered the specific economic and financial impact of attempting to finish the season during the pandemic and therefore felt it was imperative not to risk the long-term financial stability of the leagues and their clubs.
"It was also recognised that the JD Cymru Premier could not be concluded prior to the deadline set by UEFA for European competition entry.
"Clubs in the JD Cymru Premier, JD Cymru North, JD Cymru South and the Orchard Welsh Premier Women’s League were consulted on how the season should be concluded. The views and information provided by the clubs were communicated to the FAW National League Board and the FAW Board of Directors.
"The FAW Board agreed that Tier 1 to 4 leagues would be curtailed and that an unweighted points per game method be applied to determine the final standings. As a consequence, the European Play-Offs in the JD Cymru Premier will not take place.”
This means Connah’s Quay Nomads have officially ended The New Saints’ domination of JD Cymru North after being crowned champions. The same applies for Prestatyn Town, who are still fighting for their Tier 1 Domestic Licence to secure a possible promotion to the top flight.
The FAW have also scrapped the JD Welsh Cup, which was at the semi-final stage and was set to feature TNS, Prestatyn, Caernarfon Town and Cardiff Met.
The Journal understands there was a proposal in place to hold the remaining cup fixtures over a 4-5 day period at the Cardiff City Stadium behind closed doors, where players would have been tested before the semi-finals and final.
This has not come to fruition, leaving the Nomads, TNS, Bala Town and Barry Town United as the European qualifiers from the season.
