PRESTATYN Cricket Club face a wait to get their season underway after the summer’s action was put back due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Liverpool and District Cricket Competition announced the suspension of the season on Wednesday, March 18 following the latest government advice and discussions with the England and Wales Cricket Board.
This will run until mid-July at the earliest, with the prospect of the entire season falling victim to the COVID-19 outbreak still on the table.
A league spokesman, said: “It is with sadness and reluctance that we recommend that all forms of recreational cricket are for now suspended.
“It is our hope and intention to enable a competitive level of cricket to be played later in the summer, but this clearly depends on factors outside of our control.
“Taking account of all the guidance and advice we do not expect this to take place until mid-July at the earliest, but we will monitor the situation.
“Meanwhile we will plan for a number of eventualities and will communicate with all clubs.”
This applies to all senior and junior leagues and also means there will be no promotion or relegation from any play that comes from the 2020 season.
The 2021 campaign will start in correlation to the positions planned for this summer, and the league also asked the clubs to take “appropriate action” regarding their overseas players.
A further statement on finance and the mitigation on the effect on clubs will follow in the coming days.
Prestatyn were set to make a run at the Division Three title after securing a host of outstanding signings, including Sri Lankan all-rounder Sampath Perera.
Talented duo Rohit Kaimal and Max Jones have also committed to the Beach Close side, who are celebrating their 125th anniversary this year.
