PRESTATYN Town have been dealt another hammer blow with the news that Gareth Wilson has resigned as manager.
The Seasiders’ confirmed the news on Friday, June 1 and is the latest body blow of a turbulent pre-season following their relegation from the JD Welsh Premier League.
Wilson, who took over from legendary figure Neil Gibson earlier this year, is followed out of the Motion Finance Stadium by assistant Steve Rogers, who has also relinquished his position at the beleaguered club.
This is the latest in a series of losses to the Huws Gray Alliance side in the last fortnight, with many senior squad members already announcing their departure to other clubs throughout the region.
The departing boss, said: “This has been a tough decision that we have had to make but we feel it is one that is necessary for the club to move forward and rebuild itself on and off the pitch.
“It has been a difficult and complex year for us all at the football club but at the same time, it has been a wonderful and uplifting professional and personal experience for me.
“To have been given the opportunity to manage Prestatyn was truly amazing and one I have learned so much from. The players have been a pleasure to manage and coach, they have all represented Prestatyn town football club with great pride, determination and professionalism.
“The fans, volunteers and community make this a great club and I thank them for all their support over the last eight years. Prestatyn will always be a special club and I wish them all the very best for the future. Thank you for so many wonderful memories.”
The Town board have already begun the search for a successor as they look to get some stability into a set-up that has endured its fair share of troubled times in recent years.
Club CEO Leigh Williams, added: “I would like to thank Gareth for his time at Prestatyn as a player, a coach and since taking over as manager in February.
“Gareth took over in February at a difficult time for the club and a lesser man would have washed his hands of it. I will always remember in 2009 when we signed Gareth as a player the excitement of the club in securing such a player, Gaz went on to win us the Welsh Cup, North Wales Cup and secure us a place in Europe.
“As a coach he helped then manager Gibson to the Cymru Alliance Title. I am also proud that we helped develop Gaz in to a fine coach at the club, where he gained his A+B licences and I know Osian Roberts is keen to get him on the prestigious UEFA Pro Licence.”
