CPD Y Rhyl 1879 got back to winning ways on Saturday (August 24) with a home victory against Glan Conwy in the second qualifying round of the FAW Welsh Cup.

It followed the Lilywhites’ first loss of the season away at Holyhead the previous Saturday.

At Belle Vue on Saturday, though, Rhyl dominated from the off, and took an early lead through Jon Bravo scoring a fine header from a corner in the sixth minute .

And it was Bravo who doubled Rhyl’s lead 13 minutes later when he took the ball past two defenders, dropped his shoulder, and slotted the ball into the back of the net past 16-year-old Glan keeper Jack Moorley.

Just before half-time, the game was put out of reach for Glan Conwy, when young James Stevens got his deserved goal after a couple of chances earlier where he had come close.

This time, Stevens made no mistake, getting put through from a killer ball from the impressive Tom Kemp, before firing his shot across Moorley to put Rhyl three up.

On 55 minutes, young Elliot Turner took his chance in a rare start, getting on the scoresheet with a cross that found its way past the keeper from the left-hand side.

Sam Ashton later came on, and was straight into action - within a minute of entering the pitch, he set up Harvey Edgar, who made it five with a nice finish.

Kemp then made it 6-0 with thunderous long-range shot on 74 minutes.

The game looked like it was to going to play out without too much drama, only for Casey Faulkner to see his second yellow and an early bath within minutes of coming on after challenging the assistant referee on a decision.

Next up for Rhyl is a derby, as the Lilywhites travel five miles down the A525 on August 28 to face St Asaph in their fifth league game of the season (6.30pm kick-off).
