CPD Y Rhyl were unable to follow up their 5-0 win last time out with another victory as they fell to a 4-1 home defeat to Llangefni Town at Belle Vue on Saturday (February 17).
Rhyl boss Gareth Thomas opted to name an unchanged starting XI, but it was a disappointing start for the hosts, who found themselves behind after just 10 minutes.
It was former Lilywhite Gerwyn Roberts who put Llangefni in front, making no mistake when the ball fell kindly to him to break the deadlock.
The away side continued dominate and look dangerous on the counter-attack, eventually doubling their lead on 23 minutes.
When the ball was crossed over by John Littlemore, it was Osian Jones this time who made no mistake to put Llangefni two to the good.
With 42 minutes played, Cameron Jones then made it 3-0 to the away side, as disappointing first half for Rhyl left Thomas no option but to ring the changes for the second period.
Thomas made four changes at the break, introducing Miles Todd, James Hay, Adam Hold and Mark Roberts.
A more even second half ensued, with neither side creating much in terms of opportunities.
It was Rhyl who struck first, as Mark Roberts scored a diving header following a right-wing cross on 80 minutes to give the Lilywhites a glimmer of late hope.
Rhyl continued to look for another goal to reduce the deficit, in doing so leaving gaps at the back.
And in the 89th minute, Llangefni Town’s number nine, Iwan Jones, increased their lead following a counter-attack, to put them 4-1 with just a handful of minutes left to play.
After the game, Thomas said his team weren’t good enough, and he was disappointed at how the team performed in the first half.
He also said he was looking forward to correcting things at training this week ahead of next week’s trip to rivals St Asaph on Saturday, February 24 (kick-off 2pm).
