Callum Donaldson, one of the club’s directors, is currently co-ordinating the women and girls’ programme at Rhyl Rugby Club, and has organised next week’s camp.

He said: “The camp will be designed for the girls to experience rugby through games and by having fun.

“I am also hoping they will make new friends and want to continue playing rugby as part of our satellite hub attributed to  the Dreigiau’r Glannau girls hub based in Abergele.

“I currently coach a boys’ under-13s team at Rhyl Rugby Club and last year, I had seven girls leave my team due to a change in the way the girls’ pathway into rugby had been amended.

“The mixed girls’ and boys’ rugby was finishing at under-11s, and the girls who left my team went on to do other sports. I felt like this was a loss of talent, as they were all very good players.

“Girls’ rugby is growing massively and it’s amazing to see, and so I wanted Rhyl Rugby Club to be a part of this growth in the girls’/women’s game.

“I made contact with Dreigiau’r Glannau and the Welsh Rugby Union and have now managed to become a satellite hub for them.

“We are hoping the camp will be well-attended; there is no charge for this on Wednesday, as I wanted to give the opportunity to every girl to have the chance to experience rugby.

“With a good attendance, we can then move on to holding weekly training sessions, and holding matches on Sunday afternoons at the rugby club.”
