A NEW 'hub' where locals can enjoy a relaxing drink or a tasty dish is opening in Rhyl.
Harrisons Bistro and Bar will open on Saturday, June 26 on Wellington Road.
Michelle Mellor, who has previously worked for Whitbread hotels and restaurants and ran Brewers Fayre's Afon Conwy on Glan Conwy Corner, is behind the new venture.
The owner of Micky's Professional Catering Company will run the business with daughters Destiney-Page and Paisley-Jade.
Michelle hopes to take on about five staff in total.
She said: I am taking over the lease for Harrisons which is owned and designed by Stephen and Lisa Darby from Busy Bees Taxis based in Rhyl. It is called Harrisons after his son.
"Whilst working for Whitbread I also took on other roles within the company. I launched marketing, training, developed my team and managers. This is is what I thrive on - growing businesses through fantastic environments, great food served by a team who care."
Michelle set up Micky’s Professional Catering Company when she left The Mulberry located on Conwy Marina.
"The industry had changed and I wanted to still be creative with my menu development, themed nights and events," Michelle said.
"I have just finished as the catering Manager at Prestatyn Golf Club and had mega success their with day to day growth and driving functions in for weddings and christenings.
"During lockdown I had to think out of the box and started home delivery for people self-isolating with no local family support, afternoon tea deliveries to cheer people up on their birthdays and three course dinners for guests treating themselves too. This really helped me to sustain the business while we had no support from the government. I now have a large regular database that continue to use me for their parties and special occasions.
"My aim for Harrisons is to create a friendly welcoming hub for locals to come in and relax and enjoy either a hot drink and cake, refreshing drink or to try one of our tasty dishes. Hopefully we will also gain seasonal footfall while people holiday in the UK.
"Once our launch is well underway, I aim to start themed evenings, functions and events, being a great place for families to celebrate in style."
Harrisons Bistro and Bar will be open seven days a week. The venue will serve breakfasts, lunches, evening meals, drinks and cocktails.
Michelle added: "I have met with the local breweries and have some new and exciting products which will help us stand out from the crowd.
"We are a family run business where my daughters, Destiney-Paige and Paisley-Jade, will join me and the rest of my team. I have started recruiting for more team members to join us on our exciting adventure. The training is in place and I aim to develop them to a high standard whilst improving their skills and job satisfaction."
There will be an opening night by invitation only on June 25. Cllr Diane King, Rhyl mayor, will attend and consort cllr Peter Prendergast will be in attendance.
