AFTER a hectic few weeks, it looked as if parkruns would be the main activity for athletes at the weekend, but the only winner was Storm Bert.
The forecast of strong winds and heavy rain led to most of the North Wales parkruns being cancelled, with those in Greenfield Valley and Wepre being the ones to survive in the North East.
A couple of members of Prestatyn Running Club joined the larger-than-usual field at Greenfield; Jamie Betts coming fifth in 20.33 on his first visit and Mark Dakeyne, in 43rd place, setting his new course PB of 27.25.
Martin Cortvriend, still taking things easy after his return from Australia, ran at Wepre and finished 64th in 31.14.
Next Saturday (November 30), most members are making the long journey to Aberystwyth for the third fixture in the David Alun Williams North Wales Cross-Country League by minibus.
There are still a couple of places available if anyone wants to travel.
The club’s annual pre-Christmas social on December 6 has been called off but instead, an informal get-together will be held at the Torello Lounge.
The club has a very busy programme of runs and social events planned for the coming weeks, including fancy-dress pre-Christmas run on December 23, when food and cash donations will be received for the Prestatyn and Meliden Foodbank.
Other scheduled events include a quiz on January 23 and a ceilidh with the band Mooncoin at Rhyl Rugby Club on February 28.
