PRESTATYN Running Club teenager Oliver Birch-Jones turned in another highly impressive performance last weekend, finishing second overall in the Olympic distance triathlon in Ellesmere.

The result details were not available at the time of going to press but 17-year-old Oliver was confirmed at having won his age group.

Competing in the Sprint Tri at the same venue were Ben Thomas and Nicki Triggs, who seem unable to decide on their favourite surface or distance.

The previous weekend, they took part in the UTMB Trail races in Eryri, Ben over 17 miles and Nicki 10, and then on June 26, returned to the Wirral for the latest in the Seaside 5k series.

At Ellesmere on June 30, both finished in the top 10 in the open men’s and senior women’s classes respectively.

Their placings in the Seaside 5k were: 168 Ben Thomas 23.49, 224 Nicki Triggs 27.28, 232 Gareth Hughes 28.46 (3rd M70).

Dave Ellis chalked up another victory in the Nova Parkrun, his first win on his “home” course after coming second four times.

Placings: 1 Dave Ellis 18.37, 4 Jamie Betts 19.33, 58 Claudia Smith 29.25, 70 Lesley Furneaux 31.16, 74 Nem James 31.47, 82 Linda Friar 33.40.

In the Ruthin Parkrun Arwel Jones took another step on his return to fitness, clocking 26.00 in 34th place.
