THERE was an unfortunate choice for Prestatyn Running Club members to make at the weekend.

The fifth fixture of the Borders Road Running League clashed with the Rhyl five- and 10-mile races, which incorporated the North Wales Championships.

Some managed a weekend “double” by competing in one of the races 24 hours after participating in a parkrun.

Among those was Tom Carter, who produced a strong finish to come second in the Nova parkrun and followed it up with fourth place in Sunday’s five-miler, which, though titled a Rhyl race, was held in Pensarn because of coast protection works.

In the same parkrun, Sian Beck was the first female home, while Dave Ellis was first overall in the Pont y Bala parkrun.

He was one of 16 Prestatyn members who travelled to Bala in support of the breast cancer awareness campaign Feel, Find, Mind.

Meanwhile, Ally Reid, who is preparing for North Wales Coast 50k ultra race in April, put in a tough weekend session, picking up a medal in the process.

She was third L50 in the North Wales championships in the Rhyl 10-miler, and then ran the six miles home.

She shared the limelight on the day with Ann Claire Jones, who was third overall in the same category in the open race and won the North Wales title.

The 10-mile results were: 51 Craig Smith 76.50, 57 Darren Thompson 78.39, 23rd female Ann Claire Jones 82.37 (3rd L50), 35th female Ally Reid 87.19, 74th female Helen Alefounder 1-40.29, 100th female Cathy Wood 1-53.20.

5-mile race: 4 Tom Carter 29.43, 33 Patrick Haberland 39.40.

Elsewhere, 20 members represented the club in the Borders League at Kelsterton, with Alex Ryder once again leading the squad home.

On his first appearance in the red vest Andrew Parry had an excellent run, finishing 94th overall.
