A COUPLE of members of Prestatyn Running Club made light of a heavy cold and a heavy training week in Sunday (February 18)’s 5k and 10k races in Ruthin.
Alex Ryder had put in an unusually high 74 kilometres of training in the week leading up to the 5k race but claimed an excellent place in 18.31.
Meanwhile in the 10k event Reg Jonas, who was recovering from a cold was first M60 despite approaching his 65th birthday.
He was 34th overall, with clubmate Steve Weedman 23rd in 48.49.

Four of the club’s ladies travelled to Coed y Brenin near Dolgellau for the Winter Trail race which, at seven miles, was considerably shorter than usual.
There was a field of more than 440 for the race, over an attractive course of paths and fire tracks.
Ann Claire Jones was the first of the quartet in 186th place, clocking 1-13.40, and was followed by Sophie Johnson (192nd, 1-15.18, Mandy Cartwright (232nd, 1-18.29) and Helen Alefounder (358, 1-30.54).
Conditions were perfect for Saturday’s parkruns, but the only PB recorded was by Jamie Betts on the tough Wepre course.

Next Sunday sees the fifth Borders Road-Running League fixture hosted by Deeside AAC at Kelsterton.
With only one more race before the end-of-season relay competition, several Prestatyn members are in line for individual age-category awards.
