HAVING a race plan is always a good idea, but executing it is a different matter - but that’s exactly what Prestatyn Running Club’s Tom Carter achieved on Saturday (August 12).

Before lining up for the start of the Nova parkrun, he said he would take it quite steady to begin in the hope of saving energy for a strong finish.

With about a kilometre to go, Tom was some way behind first-timer Morgan Back, but he quickly closed the gap and into the headwind pulled away to win by 14 seconds in a new PB of 17.18.

It was a double success for the club as Lisa Lines was the first lady home, coming 14th overall in 22.00.

A total of 16 club members took part but there were even more than that at the course as the club had volunteered to take on the organisation of the day’s event.

Meanwhile, Prestatyn Running Club’s Gordon Jones is in the Welsh team for the Masters’ international being incorporated in the Mid-Cheshire 5k on August 25.

Gordon is ranked number two M65 in Britain after his record-breaking performance in the five-mile championship in Holyhead.
