THE Borders Road-Running League ended on a highly successful note for Prestatyn Running Club, who hosted the final fixture across a 3.6-mile course along the promenade.

There was a strong turnout of 20 members, enabling the men to finish third in Division Two on the day, and the women second.

A total of seven members picked up end-of season awards, and both teams finished third on aggregate, but the women were runners-up in the improvers’ category.

Alex Ryder continued his good form on Sunday (May 21) when he again joined a class field in the Greater Manchester 10k.

Though slightly disappointed with his time of 36.04, which he attributed to the heat, he achieved the ambition he has held since 2017 by finishing in the first 100.

He was 96th out of a massive 25,000 starters.

Only two members competed in Friday (May 19)’s Christleton 5k, which is renowned for producing fast times.

Sian Beck was 365th overall in 22.34 and supervet Roger Harrison-Jones 436th.

Though he is now 85+, he was third over-70, the oldest prize category.

His time of 29.10 means that he is now over a minute clear at the top of the UK rankings for his age.

Elsewhere, dedicated hill runners Sophie Johnson and Mandy Cartwright made the long trip to Porthmadog for the Moel y Gest race, the latest in the Joe Brown Tuesday Night Series.

It was another tough one, only 3.6 miles but involving 1,300 feet of ascent – and some of that a scramble.

On Saturday (May 20), club members were in action in parkruns as far afield as Leicestershire, Anglesey and Devon.
