THOUGH the Welsh squad results in Saturday's British and Irish Masters' cross-country international in Dublin were disappointing, the four Prestatyn Running Club members taking part had reason to be satisfied with their performances.

The most impressive run came from Gordon Jones, who worked his way through the field across the fast four-lap course.

He was the first of two Welsh finishers in the M60 class but, more impressively, also beat all of the Welsh M55 runners despite being almost 65.

Martin Cortvriend turned his another strong display in a high-quality field dominated by English athletes, and was also the first M70 finisher.

The second Welsh finishers in their respective age-groups were Steve Skates (M40), who is more at home on hillier courses than the flat Santry Park, and Gareth Hughes (M75).
