AFTER an excellent performance in the final race of Deestriders’ Off-Road Grand Prix, Prestatyn Running Club’s Alex Ryder maintained his good form at Sunday (September 18)’s Guilden Sutton 10k.

In a high-quality race, he finished fourth overall, setting a new personal best of 35.14, and was rightly extremely happy with the result.

“I’m looking forward now to the Borders League,” he later said, with the league getting underway on October 9.

Elsewhere, on a busy day, Ann Claire Jones and Helen Alefounder joined a field of more than 800 in the Vyrnwy half-marathon, finishing respectively in 2-03.31 and 2-08.27.

And Sophie Johnson and Mandy Cartwright, who rarely finish more than a few seconds apart, were the club’s only representatives in the Llyn Alwen 11k race on Sunday.

True to form, they finished 49th and 51st respectively in 64.41 and 65.05.

Still on his travels in Africa, Martin Cortvriend set another over-70s’ record in the Walvis Bay Parkrun in Namibia.

He finished second overall in 21.54, four minutes inside the previous age-group best.

Other Parkrun results: Nova: 5 Dave Ellis 21.13, 19 Martin Gill 24.36, 55 Debbie Jones 28.49 (pb), 66 Linda Friar 30.34, 81 Julie Evans 32.55 (pb), 83 Andrew Scott 33.29 (missed the start), 85 Nem James 33.49.
