IT WAS a case of like father, like son - and like mother - when Shirin Poostchi took to the track at the Welsh Masters’ track and field championships in Aberdare.

The Prestatyn Running Club member took gold in the L50 800m with a time of 3-26.37, emulating the feat of husband Mike Hodgson and son Roman in taking Welsh titles.

Shirin went one better, though, as she also won silver in the 1,500m, clocking 6-59.40.

Shirin, from Gwaenysgor, also earned her first Welsh vest when she ran the 800m and 3,000m in the Masters’ inter-area competition in Nuneaton.

Meanwhile, with the earlier thunderstorm having abated, conditions were near perfect for last week’s Ruthin 5k.

A total of 10 Prestatyn members turned out, with Dave Ellis again in good form to lead the squad home and Helena Cox continuing her recent improvement.

Both are in training for next month’s Chester Marathon.
