PRESTATYN Running Club's supervets picked up a range of medals in the North Wales Cross Country championships in Wrexham on Saturday (March 5)
This year, the championships were incorporated into the final fixture of the North Wales League, which led to several complications in sorting out the results.
But among the definite outcomes were a win for Martin Cortvriend in the M70 class and Roger Harrison-Jones (M80). Gareth Hughes was second M75, and Roger's brother Ron took bronze in the M80 category.
It is also expected to be confirmed that the trio of Gareth, Roger and Steve Hatfield won the M75 team event and that Gordon Jones won a medal in the M60 class.
The men's team was Steve Skates, Gordon Jones, John Simpson, Lee Bailey, Luke Bodman, James Rogers and Arwel Jones. Ladies: Lisa Johnson, Helen Ashworth and Liz Martin.
While the Wrexham course is the flattest in the region, two members took on one of the steepest in the Pipedream race in Dolgarrog, in which competitors climb the near-vertical steps alongside the huge pipes before reaching more open hillside.
Chris Yorke, on a rare racing appearance, finished 14th in 45.02, with Steve Brown 45th in 59.38.
To non-runners, Anglesey probably appears flat, but competitors in Sunday's half-marathon on the island would probably choose to differ.
A pair of club members joined the large field for the event, which incorporated the North Wales championships.
Craig Smith finished in 60th place with a time of 91.50 and Dan Liddle was 143rd in 1:41.08.
Andrew Bromley travelled to Manchester for the Trafford 10k, which, as usual, had a high-quality field, and he had a fine run to finish 147th in 34.01.
Linda Friar also went across the border, coming 359th in the St Helens 10k with a time of 66.11.
Last week, Luke Bodman had his best outing yet, winning the Ruthin 5k, which is a far from straightforward course, in an excellent 19.44.
