IN SUNDAY (February 27)’s return to the Kelsterton course for the season’s fourth fixture there were just 16 Prestatyn Running Club members in action, so despite some excellent individual performances, the men’s and women’s teams were bound to be up against it in an increasingly competitive league.
Andrew Bromley was the first Prestatyn finisher in 28th place, and received good support from Alex Ryder, Steve Stocker (in his first league race of the season), and Steve Haimes.
Close behind was Martin Cortvriend, who turned out despite having had a back problem all week.
The placings were: 28. Andrew Bromley; 29. Steve Stocker; 45. Alex Ryder; 140. Steve Haimes; 146. Martin Cortvriend; 156. James Rogers; 161. Steve Weedman; 201. George Nixon; 207. Arwel Jones; 212. Steve Brown; 218. Ann-Claire Jones; 221. Ally Reid; 222. Gareth Hughes; 237. Cara Jones; 249. Helen Alefounder; 261 Liz Cave.
Saturday’s Nova Parkrun was won by former GB middle distance runner Tom Carter, who runs the Trainer Container store in The Shed, Meliden.
He judged his finish perfectly to win by just a few seconds from former Prestatyn member James Kimber.
Placings: 9. (First lady) Amy Foster 22.20 (PB); 11. Steve Weedman 22.44; 17. Martin Gill 24.07; 18. Helen Ashworth 24.59; 23. Melanie Bone 25.42; 55. Debbie Weedman 32.26; 63. Martin Cortvriend 34.14; 69. Nem James 36.12.

This Saturday (March 5) sees the fifth and final fixture of the David Alun Williams North Wales Cross-Country League in Wrexham, which this year incorporates the North Wales Championship.
The club has a strong record in the championship over the years but will need all its big guns out to make an impression this time.
This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the Prestatyn club and plans are being made for a reunion of former members.
It is provisionally booked for Saturday, July 9, and anyone interested in attending or with contact details for other ex-members is asked to contact Gareth Hughes on 01745 888078.
