A CHILDREN’S football club in Abergele has been taken on by a new committee.

Pentre FC has more than 200 youngsters attending weekly training sessions and matches, with its new committee aiming to “continue to grow and improve the club”.

Since joining in July, the committee has already made “huge changes”, including up toilets at and a tuck shop at the club’s premises, creating a seating area for the spectators, planting flowers and erecting advertising signs.

The club is also due to have a girl’s and a disability team starting next month.

Stacey Allen, chair, said: "Becoming chair, I had a vision of how Pentre could grow.

“We ran our first three-day festival in August, which was a huge success and money was raised for the club, with great feedback.

“Ensuring the toilets were open was vital for players, parents and carers to have access to, also providing hot drinks and snacks for visitors to the pitch.

“We also wanted to provide a hub for parents where they could socialise by having a seat and a coffee together, which has been a huge success.

“Children playing football is a place where they can express themselves, play with friends, and forget school worries, but most of all, have fun. We have got great plans for the future of Pentre and the children in the club.

“I would like to personally thank my other committee members who have sacrificed a lot of time over the past few months as we took over and for all their hard work and dedication to the club, but most of all, I would like to thank our coaches and managers.

“Without their time given to the children, we would have no teams. Their hard work and commitment is hugely appreciated."

Michelle Lloyd, Pentre’s vice secretary and grants officer, added: “We would like to thank all of the local businesses that have helped and supported us in donating all different items, as well as their time over the past few months, to get us up and running and looking as good as we do.”

Further information on the club can be found on its Facebook page.
