Georgia Wilson will launch her bid for Paralympic gold in Paris on Friday with the all-female GB Para Equestrian team.

The 28-year-old Abergele rider, who has Cerebral Palsy, was a surprise medallist at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. After being selected as a reserve along with her horse Sakura, she was called up to compete and took bronze in both the team event and the individual freestyle.

Since then Georgia and Sakura have established themselves on the international Para Equestrian dressage stage and will set out to upgrade their bronze medals to gold this week.

Alongside teamates Mari Durward-Akhurst on Athene Lindebjerg, Natasha Baker on Keystone Dawn Chorus and her coach Sophie Wells on Don Cara M, Georgia will compete in individual dressage events. Three of the team will be selected to compete in the team event.

"I’m very excited and proud to be selected for Paris 2024 – I can’t believe I get to go to a second Paralympic Games with Sakura. I’m honoured and I can’t wait to go out and try my best in Paris."

Georgia first began riding at Clwyd Special Riding Centre in Llanfynydd ages just two on a Shetland pony named Diana, after her physiotherapist recommended it to help with her balance.

Georgia was then selected as a reserve for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics - which took place in 2021 due to Covid - and when her opportunity came she seized it.

Snice then Georgia has claimed individual bronze at the 2022 World Championships in Denmark and individual silver and team bronze in the 2023 European Championships in Germany.
