A planned new smokehouse-style restaurant in Towyn will open until 11pm if planning permission is granted.

Endaf Kerfoot has applied to Conwy County Council’s planning department, seeking permission to vary the opening hours of the proposed restaurant planned for the former BJ’s café, gift shop and pet supplies store.

Planning permission for the restaurant has already been granted at the site, which is to be fully renovated, with a new parking area to the rear and a refurbished seating area at the front of the run-down building.

The applicant also wants to extend the opening hours at the new restaurant at Unit 2, Nant Clwyd House, Towyn Road at Kerfoot Caravan Park.

The former café had permission to operate between 9am and 6pm, but this now could be extended to 9am to 11pm.

A planning statement said: “We believe the 9am to 6pm opening hours will negatively impact the restaurant’s financial viability, as evening and late-night service would generate significant revenue.

“There’s likely a strong demand for dining options during those hours, especially in an area with vibrant nightlife.

“Restricting the restaurant while allowing other businesses to operate to a late hour creates an unfair competitive disadvantage.

“Restaurants can also implement safety measures to manage crowds and noise, ensuring responsible operations without the need for strict hour limitations.”

The statement added: “Allowing the restaurant to operate later fosters community engagement, serving as a social hub and supporting local economic growth.

“Ultimately, extended hours align the restaurant with the needs of the community, neighbouring establishments, and enhance its contributions to the local economy.”

The planning application will likely be decided by the delegated authority of council officers or debated at a future planning committee meeting.
