A CHILDREN’S football club in Abergele has introduced a new team for individuals with learning disabilities aged 16 and older.
Pentre FC has launched Pentre All Stars, in collaboration with Conwy Connect for Learning Disabilities (CC4LD), an equal rights charity.
It is already making a significant impact by creating opportunities for people with learning disabilities to enjoy football in a supportive and inclusive environment.
The idea for Pentre All Stars came from Cath Thornton, coach of the Pentre Wildcats under-10s and chief executive of CC4LD.
new committee of Pentre FC, who welcomed the initiative with open arms.
After hearing from CC4LD’s members about their desire for inclusive football opportunities, Cath brought the idea to thePentre All Stars train every Saturday morning from 10.30-11.30am, offering players aged 16 and older a chance to develop their skills, build confidence, and form lasting friendships.
The sessions are led by experienced coaches fully trained in working with individuals with disabilities, ensuring that every player feels supported and included.
Younger players from Pentre FC also volunteer to help coach and support Pentre All Stars during their sessions, giving young players an opportunity to develop leadership skills while contributing to this project.
To support this growing team, Pentre FC is inviting businesses to get involved - sponsorship will help provide kits and equipment, ensuring Pentre All Stars have all they need to succeed.
For more information on sponsorship opportunities or to get involved, email Catherine@conwy-connect.org.uk or call 07925966009.
Pentre FC has more than 200 youngsters attending weekly training sessions and matches, with its new committee aiming to “continue to grow and improve the club”.
Since joining in July, the committee has already made “huge changes”, including up toilets at and a tuck shop at the club’s premises, creating a seating area for the spectators, planting flowers and erecting advertising signs.
