THE Christmas lights switch-on event in Rhyl, due to take place tomorrow (November 23), has been cancelled.
Organisers Denbighshire Leisure Ltd (DLL) said this is due to tomorrow’s “bad weather forecast”.
Cast members of Rhyl’s Christmas pantomime, Cinderella, were set to switch the lights on, while other entertainment was planned for the event, including themed stilt walkers, face painting, balloon modelling, and music.
Instead, the lights will switched on remotely during the course of the afternoon.
DLL said: “Due to the weather forecast of heavy rain and storms with gusts up to 50mph, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel the Christmas lights switch-on and the associated entertainment tomorrow.
“We have left it as long as possible to make the decision, but unfortunately have had to make the decision to cancel tomorrow’s event.
“The Christmas tree and street lights will be switched on remotely during the course of the afternoon.
“We understand the disappointment this will cause, but unfortunately (we) had no option given the forecasted weather conditions. Thank you for your understanding.”
Rhyl’s free Christmas Pops Concert is still set to go ahead on Sunday at the town’s Pavilion Theatre, starting at 5pm.
