A FORMER Territorial Army site in Prestatyn has been sold, after being placed on the market with a guide price of £1.5million.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed today (November 20) that a sale of the site, on Marine Road, has been agreed, subject to contract.

It did not disclose who the buyer is.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence said: “The former Territorial Army centre at Marine Road has been sold, subject to contract.

“We are committed to disposing of the site to realise value for money for the taxpayer and so that funds can be re-invested back into the Volunteer Estate.”

The Army Reserve Centre, located on the corner of Marine Road and Bastion Road, was sold to the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association for Wales in November 2016.

It followed a Government decision to merge the 101 Battalion of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers with the 105 battalion, based in Bristol.

The Ministry of Defence later placed it on the market with GVA, which was later taken over by Avison Young.

Supermarket chain Aldi had considered opening a new store at the site, but after “extensive work” exploring its potential redevelopment, it decided in 2022 not to pursue this.

Avison Young said of the site: “The subject site is occupied as a training and defence facility and comprises a total of approximately 1.9 acres (0.80 hectares).

“The accommodation on-site is constructed of brick elevations under a part-pitched, part-flat roof.

“The buildings are of three storeys to the front and single rear build, with the front subdivided into offices, mess barracks and ancillary space, with thee rear providing open warehouse/stores facility.

“To the rear section of the site is a substantial yard area with rear grassland.

“Gated vehicular access to the facility is provided off Marine Road, with pedestrian access provided at the junction.”
