A WOMAN from Rhuddlan who has volunteered in her community for more than a decade has received an award for her service.
Maggie Thompson-Williams has won the Aelwyn Morgan Award, given annually by Rhuddlan Town Council to a person or persons who have done outstanding work in the local community.
The award is named after the former head teacher of Ysgol Y Castell.
Ms Thompson-Williams was nominated in recognition of her work with Rhuddlan Stroke Club, for whom she has made lunches and helped run activities for 16 years.
For the past 5 years, she and three others have run a fortnightly lunch club, GEMs, which attracts many elderly, disabled and lonely people, with this event being a highlight for many.

Her duties at the club, based at the community centre, include work in the kitchen, running a quiz and celebrating birthdays.
Maggie also helps run functions at Rhuddlan Bowling Club, helping the club cater for events it hosts.
Described as a “deserving winner”, she was presented with the award by Rhuddlan Mayor Cllr. Val Simmons at the council’s November meeting.
Ms Simmons said: “This award is only awarded to people who have significantly contributed to the community within our town.
“There is no doubt that Maggie is a shining example of this.
“It is a pleasure and honour to present this award to Maggie Thompson-Williams.”
