PRESTATYN Town FC have announced the appointment of former CPD Y Rhyl 1879 head coach Gareth Thomas as manager.

Gareth Thomas, who left his role in Rhyl in late October, fills the position left by Chris Morrell, who departed the Seasiders last month.

Thomas was manager of Rhyl from its beginning in 2020, and oversaw the growth of the club and its promotion to the Ardal NW League.

Prestatyn’s new manager said the club had “superb plans” for the future and he was “delighted” to have joined the club.

He said: “Following lengthy discussions the last few weeks with the chairman and current staff members at the Club I’m delighted to have been given the opportunity to come in.

“The chairman has some superb plans in the pipeline over the next few years off the field for the club so I was delighted to help structure a footballing front for the club and will be active in the coming days/weeks to fill some of the roles on the structure as I look to add to the current staff here who will be remaining as we look to build some strong and stable foundations for the club to move forward.

“Whilst I realise on the footballing side the league position doesn’t lie, there are plenty of points left to play for and I wouldn’t have taken on this challenge if I didn’t feel we could get out of the position and target safety for the season

“There is lots to work on and we will try our hardest to achieve the targets we have given ourselves but also get the club on a stable footing going forward."

Prestatyn Town chairman James Benbow added: “We are thrilled to welcome Gareth Thomas as the newest addition to our leadership team.

“With a strong background in football in previous roles, he joins us with a clear vision and ambitious plans for our club’s growth and success.

“His goals align with our values, and he is committed to building upon the foundation we have worked hard to establish.

“Gareth believes in growing sustainably, recognizing the strengths of our existing team, resources, and culture.

“He aims to harness our club’s current assets, fostering innovation and progress without losing sight of what has made us successful over the years.

“His approach is one of collaboration and respect for our achievements, and he is dedicated to guiding us to the next level.

“We are confident that with his drive, expertise, and shared dedication to our mission, Gareth will help us reach new heights.

“We look forward to working together to make our club stronger and more resilient, building a bright future based on the solid groundwork we already have in place.

“Please join us in welcoming Gareth Thomas and supporting him as he leads us on this exciting new journey."
