A MAN who runs a clothing and gift shop in Rhyl says his business is suffering from a “ridiculous” amount of uncollected rubbish outside its premises.
Damian Skrzelowski has run the MiszMags store on Sussex Street for more than a year, but said refuse collectors are not clearing the adjacent Sussex Lane, a narrow, off-road street which can be accessed via the rear of the shop’s premises.
Mr Skrzelowski, who also lives in Rhyl, said he was fined £35 last week (or £70 if not paid within 14 days) because he emptied the contents of his van into his shop on Sussex Street, rather than on Sussex Lane, because of the amount of rubbish on it.

He said: “It’s ridiculous. The back of Sussex Lane is like a tip yard. It’s like this every day, and weekends are even worse.
“The problem is the council aren’t picking up anything from the back of the street. I don’t know what to do about it.
“We have access to the back of the shop through Sussex Lane, but this access is constantly blocked, and rubbish is blocking the emergency exit from the shop, as well.
“Sussex Lane is not being touched, basically.”
Mr Skrzelowski added his fears that businesses will be affected by Rhyl looking “dirty”, in instances such as this.
He said he did not know if the issue was that refuse collectors’ vehicles are too wide to fit on Sussex Lane, or that they don’t have enough time to pick up rubbish there, or that are simply “ignoring” it.
The council, he added, was first informed by him in March of the issues with rubbish not being collected.
“We need the council to organise something to clean the rubbish up there,” Mr Skrzelowski added.
“So far, I’ve not seen any rubbish being collected there.”
In response, a council spokesperson said: “Our Streetscene team have since cleared the excess rubbish on Sussex Lane following reports, and our waste crews were out on Thursday morning (November 7) collecting any remaining domestic bins.”
