VUE has confirmed it will close its cinema venue in Rhyl at the start of next year.

The cinema chain said its Rhyl site, on the seafront, will cease to operate beyond January 2025 after Vue decided not to extend their lease of the site.

Vue added that it was working with the council to "ensure a smooth handover" of the premises, with no operator lined up to take the site on.

The decision means cinemagoers have just two months to see movies on the big screen in Rhyl, with blockbusters Paddington 3, Gladiator 2, and Wicked all set for release before the end of the year.

Vue Cinema joins a host of other businesses to have closed in the town in recent years, with the SeaQuarium now set for demolition and WH Smith to close its Rhyl store in February.

Rhyl business owner Chad Jones, who runs the popular Rhyller Thriller horror film festival in Rhyl each year, said it was another blow for the town.

He said: "This is another big blow to Rhyl. I love this town and it saddens me to see another business leaving."

Chad, who along with Tomos Rowlands, recently screened spooky films for children at Christchurch CP School, added: "I started Rhyller Thriller for the town and I will try my hardest to keep films coming to Rhyl."

A Vue spokesperson said: “We can confirm that we will not be extending our lease at our Rhyl venue beyond January 2025.

"We are working closely with the council to ensure a smooth handover, and until further notice, we will continue to provide cinemagoers in Rhyl with the very best big screen experience.”
