A CONVICTED paedophile from St Asaph has died aged 70 in a prison in Morocco.

Former teacher Robert Bill was jailed for 20 years at a court in Tetouan in 2014 after being found guilty of kidnap and attempted rape, the French news agency AFP reported.

Yesterday (November 5), the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed that Bill has died.

A FCDO spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British man following his death in Morocco and are in contact with the local authorities.”

AFP reported in 2014 that Bill was arrested at a petrol station in Tetouan in June 2013 after people overheard the screams of a girl from his Spanish-registered car and alerted police.

He was also accused of kidnapping and attempting to rape another two Moroccan girls prior to his arrest, one in Tetouan and one in nearby Chefchaouen.

Bill had previously served jail time in the UK following his conviction in 2009 of attempting to abduct a girl in Holywell.

After leaving prison he travelled to southern Spain, arriving in Morocco in November 2012 from the town of Ceuta.

Spanish police had issued a warrant for his arrest on separate paedophilia and kidnapping charges.
