A SWEET shop in Prestatyn which was forced to temporarily close after suffering fire damage in August has now closed the pop-up store it subsequently opened.
Granny Pats Tuck Shop, on High Street, said on August 12 that it would be shut for the foreseeable future following a fire early that morning, its premises having been left “decimated”.
A 65-year-old man, Tony Handy, sadly died following the fire, while two men were arrested in connection with the incident but were released without charge and the matter is no longer being treated as suspicious.
The pop-up shop opened at the side of its main premises later that week, but has now closed, with it its main store hopefully re-opening in the new year.
Granny Pats is now giving away its remaining stock in the form of “mystery bags”, priced at either £5, £10 or £18.
These have been “flying out” so far, and be collected from the pop-up shop.
Granny Pats’ owners said: “Because it’s out of season now, it’s getting far too cold in there – we don’t have electricity in there, so it’s freezing, and obviously it’s getting dark earlier, as well.
“Once we can get back in to the main shop, then we’ll start again. We’re hoping to re-open in the new year.
“Obviously, the pop-up shop wasn’t as busy as the main shop, but we were really well supported by the local community. Quite a lot of regulars and holidaymakers came down.
“Every single thing in the shop has had to go - all the stock, shelves, equipment… we’ve had to gut it. Absolutely everything has been binned.
“It’s been absolutely heart-breaking, but also good in a way, because it’s kind of given it a new lease of life.”
