A MAN from Kinmel Bay has made his first appearance in court since being charged with the murder of a 69-year-old woman.
Dean Mears, 33, of Bodelwyddan Avenue, attended Llandudno Magistrates’ Court this morning (October 28).
Mears was remanded into custody by District Judge Gwyn Jones, and was instructed to attend Mold Crown Court tomorrow.
Wearing an orange coat and grey jumper, and joined by two security officers in the dock, he spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address during the short hearing.
He is accused of murdering Catherine Flynn on Thursday and aggravated burglary at the same address.
Officers attended a property on Cefndy Road after being called at 10.30pm.
Mears was arrested at an address in Kinmel Bay later that evening “following extensive enquiries involving a number of police resources at several properties in the area”.
A 25-year-old woman was also arrested at a property in Rhyl on suspicion of assisting an offender.
She has since been released on conditional bail while police enquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Lee Boycott, of North Wales Police, said: “Our investigation continues, and I would urge anyone with information who has not yet come forward to contact us via our live webchat or on 101.
“Alternatively, you can speak to Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111. Please quote reference Q161073.”
