Fancy a tipple? Whether you want to wet your whistle after a countryside walk or meet up with some friends for a catch-up - we've compiled five award-winning North Wales pubs you need to visit.
White Lion, Llanelian
This highly-rated historic country pub is a great place if you fancy meeting up with good company over good food. This year it was crowned Gastropub of the Year at the 2024 Food Wales Awards.
It is believed to have been serving beer since 540AD, when church elders from adjacent St Elian's Church would enjoy a pint after a service. If log fires, a family-friendly, chilled atmosphere and a great menu are what you want, you need to drop into the White Lion.
The Bulls Head Inn, Beaumaris
Another pub that's an oldie but a goody, the Grade II listed Bulls Head has stood in the shadow of Beaumaris Castle for 550 years.
Its commitment to serving its customers is timeless however, and earlier this year it was named among the Welsh winners in the National Pub & Bar Awards.
The Bull's Head Inn also offers accommodation so if you enjoy yourself a little too much, you can sleep it off.
Tafarn y Ffic, Llithfaen
Head towards Pwllheli and you'll find Wales' oldest community pub, Tafarn y Ffic in Llithfaen. Taken over by locals in 1988, the pub was this year crowned the Countryside Alliance's Best Pub 2024.
Regularly offering vibrant live Welsh music and poetry and a warm welcome. Tafarn y Ffic is a bucket-list pub for anyone who loves Welsh culture and language.
Mold Alehouse, Mold
This micropub in Flintshire was the Clwyd winner of the National Pub & Bar Award for 2024.
A relative newcomer, having opened in 2016, it has quickly gained a reputation as an award-winning hostelry, with the Campaign for Real Ale already bestowing upon it a number of awards.
It is a micropub however so space is limited, but if you're happy getting cosy this is definitely one to tick off the list.
Y Llew Gwyn, Cerrigydrudion
We started the list with a White Lion and it's only fitting we should end with one. For the non-Welsh speakers Y Llew Gwyn translates as The White Lion. While this one didn't technically win, it was a close second and it's also an establishment worth a visit.
Another community pub, it came runner-up to Tafarn y Ffic in the Countryside Alliance Best Pub Awards 2024.
Just three years after the community took over the running of the pub, it has been refurbished and become a real hub for the village.
While it's no longer a bed and breakfast, it did once play host to the British Prime Minister David Lloyd George when a snowstorm left him stranded in Conwy County - so if it was good enough for him, it's definitely worth a visit!
