A POLICE review is underway after a Prestatyn mother was left “very frustrated” at learning that no further action would be taken regarding an electric bike crash which left her child unresponsive.
Darcy Gore said her two-year-old son, Dylan Latham, was left with a “scar on his head for life” and “a lot of trauma” following the incident, which took place on a path on the Morfas pitches on September 17.
North Wales Police initially made an appeal for witnesses to the incident, only for the rider of the e-bike to then come forward.
But Darcy, who said she felt “lucky that he survived”, was subsequently told that the matter would not be taken further by police.
She has since exercised her right to review this decision – once this review has concluded, police will inform her of its outcome.
A North Wales Police spokesperson said: “Officers investigating the incident involving a child and a person riding a pedal-assisted electric bike informed the child’s mother that, after investigating the circumstances and available evidence, no further action would be taken.
“The child’s mother subsequently exercised her right to review this decision, and this is currently being undertaken.
“As such, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this time.”
Dylan was playing on the Morfas while his father was practising goalkeeping with one of Darcy’s other sons when the incident happened, she said.
His face was “covered in blood” as a result, with Darcy saying he spent the following 24 hours in hospital.
Darcy added that she hopes this incident serves as a reminder of “how dangerous they (e-bikes) can be”, and of the “damage they can actually cause”.
