A CANDIDATE in a local election in Prestatyn next week has apologised after “incorrectly” using Denbighshire County Council’s logo on his placards.
Tony Flynn, who is standing as an independent candidate in the election for a seat on the county council’s Prestatyn North ward on October 24, said he “immediately” removed them after being informed of the issue.
It is not within election rules to use such branding without the local authority’s permission.
A Denbighshire County Council spokesperson said on Monday (October 14): “The council’s branding should only be used with the council’s permission, and it should not appear on a candidate’s promotional material.
“We have been made aware of the issue and are contacting the candidate to advise him that this is not an appropriate use of the council’s branding.”
Following this, Mr Flynn said: “On October 14, I was informed by an officer at Denbighshire County Council that it had been reported to them that I had incorrectly used the council’s logo on a couple of billboards, which was not allowed.
“I immediately went and took the two down and removed them. I emailed Denbighshire County Council to give my apologies, and to confirm I removed them immediately.
“They acknowledged my mistake and thanked me for my swift response. I pass on apologies to my fellow candidates.”
Mr Flynn was formerly mayor of Prestatyn and Meliden.
He faces competition in the local election from Gerry Frobisher (Reform UK), Neil Gibson (Welsh Labour), Keith Kirwan (Welsh Lib Dems), Paul Penlington (Plaid Cymru), and Anton Sampson (Welsh Conservatives).
