PHOTOS have been shared of the Northern Lights being spotted in the Prestatyn, Rhyl and Llandudno skies last night (October 10).
Members of the Journal’s Camera Club captured the astronomical phenomena, also known as the Aurora Borealis, which was visible to the naked eye from Prestatyn yesterday.
Above, you can enjoy a selection of photos from last night’s display.
Steph James-Baker took photos from her house in Prestatyn, adding: “We’re in the Llandaff Drive area, not far from the Ffrith beach. These were taken at around 10.30pm.
“It was amazing to see the colours dancing across the sky - we have seen them once before in Reykjavik, Iceland but it was incredible to be able to see them on my doorstep!”
The Northern Lights are caused when atoms in the Earth's upper atmosphere combine with charged particles from the sun, creating the vibrant display.
They are more frequently seen at higher latitudes and places like Alaska, Canada, and Antarctica, which are closer to the Earth’s poles.
The Met Office issues the following tips to help you see the Northern Lights:
- You need a clear night with no cloud cover.
- Find a dark location with no light pollution.
- Look towards the northern horizon.
