A FAMILY from Towyn have raised more than £3,500 by walking up Eryri, in aid of the hospital which cared for one of their “beloved” late relatives.
Andrew Wilson died aged 68 on September 8, 2015 after a battle with cancer, having received treatment at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan.
On September 8, 2024, the ninth anniversary of his death, his sons, daughters, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren all completed the trek to raise money for Glan Clwyd’s North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre.
Members of his family presented a £3,625 cheque to staff at Glan Clwyd at the hospital yesterday (October 9).
Diana Wilson, Andrew’s 24-year-old granddaughter, said: “Glan Clwyd did a hell of a lot for my grandad. This was just our way of showing how grateful we are for what they did.
“He was very poorly, but they looked after him a lot and gave him all of his treatment there. All of the nurses were so kind.
“The walk was difficult - it was my first time doing Eryri – but we were all headstrong and kept together, and pushed each other through it.
“The target was £500, so we’ve done a lot better than we thought! It was such a good feeling presenting the cheque. We’re thinking of making it an annual thing now.”
Diana said she and her family would like to thank everyone who contributed to the final sum of £3,625, which they are “delighted” with, and also to Glan Clwyd for its “exceptional care and support” for her grandfather.
