THE new clubhouse at Rhyl Golf Club is taking shape, with it on course to be completed by early next year.
Last October, the club was granted planning permission for the clubhouse, which will include a bar and restaurant, golf shop, lockers, showers and toilets.
It will also be fully accessible to those with disabilities, and will boast more than 40 solar panels on its roof, as part of the club’s efforts to be the first carbon neutral golf club in Wales.
Mike Pritchard, spokesperson at Rhyl Golf Club, took the attached photos from what will be the first-floor bar and restaurant.
He said: “It’s quite impactful when you get inside and look out from there. It’s elevated to a point where it lifts you above the promenade, so there’s a good view out there.
“We’re just about to finish the first phase of the structural works. We’re pretty much on target for it to be fitted by about February, ready for our launch at about the end of March or start of April.
“The solar panels on the roof will feed the electricity for the clubhouse, and there will be two electric vehicle charging points in the car park, as well.
“The whole point of this is to try n be as self-sufficient as we can be.”
Mike said the club is currently going through the tender process for “more high-end” caterers to operate its new bar and restaurant, and added that a series of opens will be held to mark the launch of the clubhouse.
Rhyl Golf Club re-opened in April, having been forced into temporary closure in December 2022 to accommodate the construction of a nine-foot-tall sea defence on the boundaries of Prestatyn and Rhyl.
A new high earth bund has been built by the course, which will act as a containment area to hold rainwater runoff.
The course has been remodelled to accommodate the new bund, while further flood defence works continue to be carried out on the coasts of Prestatyn and Rhyl.
Mike added: “The disruption has been really minimal (in the six months since re-opening).
“It’s been as quiet as we could have expected.”
